Peter Cornell, of Schenectady, claimed a $1 million second prize for matching the first five numbers from the drawing held on Wednesday, July 19.
After paying Uncle Sam, Cornell received a lump sum payment of $651,121.
He purchased the winning ticket in Latham, at the Cumberland Farms located at 1159 Troy Schenectady Road.
Powerball numbers are drawn from a field of one to 69. The red ball Power Ball is drawn from a separate field of one to 26.
Winners have one year from the drawing date to claim their prize money.
New York’s Powerball game generated over $516.8 million in total sales during fiscal year 2022-2023.
Of that, school districts in Schenectady County received more than $48.2 million in Lottery Aid to Education funds.
